APACHE REST IN POWER MY FRIEND

REST IN POWER OG:

I met Apache as a youngster coming up in the game. We had a mutual friend named Tahied who was affiliated with the Flavor Unit. When Latifah came to Tommy Boy when I was trying to give her a record deal she came with Latee, 45 King, Apache and of all people Markey Fresh who was half a member of the unit back then. After I told them all I wanted to sign Dana as they called her, the crew got psyched.

Being all of 19/20 years old and loving to burn trees we decided to go down the block and celebrate at the park down the street. As we smoked a few at the local basketball court we decided to get our Bball on. We had 4 cats/ 1 kitty who wanted to run including Latifah who was a girls high school basketball standout. We called next and proceed to run dudes off the court real quick. Our run lasted all of 3 games then sweaty and tired we grabed a beer and headed back to the office.

Apache and Latee who I thought was his brother ( it’s reported they were cousins not brothers) were always really good people. Shakim was yet to be there manager he was still running the streets. Once he came in the picture his people starting to get real paper. Apache wrote a bunch of stuff for Latifah hence he got a deal at Tommy Boy after I had moved on to greener pastures at Elektra.

I never forgot that day and the friendship that was extended my way from the Flavor Unit. When ever I run in to Shakim he reminds me of these days and we reminisce with smiles on our faces. I hadn’t seen Apache for a long time unfourtently wish I had as I always treasue that days memorys and a gang of others with him and his Flavor Unit compatriots.

Rest In Power my man you were one of the good guys and someone who helped me get along in the rap game simply by respecting my ears and person and hanging with me. It kind of gave me a cosign of sorts to some cats I guess. Beyond that he was just a nice person a fun loving guy who always was down to burn something. I extend my condolences to his family and friends. Go kick a hot 16 for me up there and say hello to our fallen brethrens my friend.

REST IN POWER APACHE!

Great post, Dante. Even though people though Gangsta B-tch was a gimmicky record, it still stands up today and Apache was always an underrated lyricist. He’s one of those dudes who didn’t have to go into ‘rapper mode’ when he started writing or spitting. His rhymes were like he was talking to you. What you heard was literally just him, but rapping instead of talking.
