PABLO NERUDA: A POEM FOR MY MOTHER!
“If You Forget Me”
By Pablo Neruda
I want you to know
one thing.
You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists:
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.
PABLO NERUDA
This poem makes me think of my mom she loves Pablo Neruda’s poetry. She’s been really sick the last few years, she has Alzheimer’s and this made me smile and think of times when she was healthy, in control of her life and how much she loved reading Pablo Neruda’s words…….She turned me on to so much creativity and culture as a kid I’m really lucky for that. It’s a gift I carry forward through out my life and hope to share with my kids someday if I ever have any that is. Thanks mom your amazing!

This touched me, D. I lost my dad the day after you posted this, so I found it especially poignant. Neruda is my favorite poet as well. Read my favorite poem “La Reina (The Queen)” if you don’t already know it.
