MICHAEL JACKSON SAY IT AINT SO

Uncategorized June 25th, 2009

Man just saw this on Twitter and then on TMZ…Michael Jackson was the first thing I was passionate about musically speaking. I was a huge Jackson 5 fan as a little tyke, the first full length record I ever bought was ABC when I was 7 I think. My sister took me to Bates records on Delancey street and I copped a cutout version for the whopping price of 3.49 I believe. I loved me some Michael Jackson and in particular the J5. They had a cartoon, he had pet snakes and he could dance like nobodies business. We used to do J5 routines as shorty’s all wanting to be Michael ( I was usually Tito or some dumb shit). I saw Ben the weekend it came out, I loved everything from One More Chance to Dancing Machine. We all practiced the robot after we saw him kill it on TV on Saturday afternoon.

Fast forward a few I’m in JHS and Off the Wall came out. It was my favorite record and the sound track for many a make out session. I never was as floored by Mike again to keep it real, though I did see him on the Thriller tour and it was bad ass. After BAD he was pretty BAD in my book from the little kids stuff to the facial remixing I wasn’t with his program too tuff, but I always respected his early work and recognized him as an inspiration of sorts in my want to create music and just get down and boogie. He’s up there with James Brown and them as the all time greatest show man real talk the guy could turn it out despite his over the top Vegas style shows. B-Boys all owe him a debt from dance steps to some of the funkiest jams ever, Michael Jackson contributions no matter how baffling his later life was are still tremendous.

Here is my favorite Jackson 5 jam ever

That was a pretty great summation of the Micheal Jackson experience. It is pretty easy to remember the sensational stuff, but through it all his musical legacy remains unparalleled.
