ART BASEL 08:CONVENTION CENTER PART 1
I went to Miami this year for the 3rd straight year. I was only in Miami for a few days and tried to take in as much art as possible. This is a bunch of stuff I saw and dug at Art Basel. The satellite shows like scope and Aqua showed younger emerging artists while at Art Basel they tended to show more heavy hitters. There was also a lot of paintings by the modern masters more than I recall seeing the last 2 years possibly due to the faltering economy. Enough of me here’s some pics of stuff I dug
Diego Singh new discovery for me….This paintings sick

Here’s someone I had never seen before….This painting is amazing: Leon Kelly

Another new find for me Gabriel Orzaca….This reminded me of Matsu a little

Glen Brown a favorite of mine….Guys has a lot of styles both abstract and figuritive

Another Glen Brown

Mosheka Longwa I dig this I first saw his/her work last Basel….Cool stuff

This is Jim Shaw a personal hero of mine….Mastered many styles….and his subject matter is always interesting…..He was once a newspaper cartoonist. His recreation of the Donner party at P.S.1 was uneal…..Guys a heavyweight

And speaking of heavyweights here’s one…Andy Warhol

And here’s another

And another…..Jean Micheal Basquit

You might have heard of this guy before…..Tom Sachs
Another Sachs and it aint no 5th avenue

The was some cool illustrative stuff there as well:Here’s 2 of my favs R Crumb and Raymond Pettibone

And now here’s some more established artists: Peter Saul
One more:
You might have heard of this dude….he once hit me with a cease and desist for a t shirt design that had a skull on it…..His skulll made of diamonds…..Damion Hirst would be his name….This piece is worth a gang of loot too bad its spin art any way you slice it….I think his art is in his hustle but then that’s just me what do I know……
Gehard Richter I have seen this painting before in a book… I love it and yes it’s blurry on purpose
This is a Willian Wegman …..He is the guy he the photo’s of him and his wiemeraniers they were really cool this is the first painting I have ever seen by him

Ryan McGinley this piece is tremendous…Dietch gallery……
Uwe Henneken….I dig this mucho…..

Marc Ryden one of the most emulated painters alive……..And a heavy hitter to say the least

This is a rare piece by Stephen Sprouse the fashion designer…..I once walked in a show for him when I was a youngster and he always remembered that when I would bump in to him walking around the streets of NY. He was a really really nice person…..He was psyched when I made my bones in the music game so it’s fitting that he’s the last piece and literally the last image in my first post……..You were most excellent Rest In Power my friend……More to come blog fans this is the first Art Basel post of many stay tuned!

With this I complete my first of several Art Basel post’s to come……I also shot a gang of stuff done by the modern masters like Miro,Paul Klee and Picasso that I will post at some point though its more of a museum type of piece….. For now though sleep beckons………
Enjoy
