OG NYHC FLYERS

Trolling on the net the other day I decided to google my old friend Sean Taggert. He did a gang of Old School New York Hard Core flyer’s, was an occasional drinking buddy and a all around funny mutherfucker. His flyer’s and illustrations defined a moment in time to me and I aways thought they were really dope wtih a unique warped perspective on it all. Trying to find the guy I tracked down his email addy so hopefully I’ll get up with him soon.

The other cat who did a lot of the flyer’s was another friend Kevin Crowley. Our parents were tight when we were small frys and later in life he was in to hardcore punk rock with a vengeance all Six 3, 200 pounds of him ( A bit after me, I was into the hardcore look for like 3 weeks than went back to being a skater duesch). Good guy/bad skin wonder what ever happened to him as well? His Abused flyer’s were more memorable than the band some might say even.  Me and Kevin used to take the train home to BK together and get a lot of weird looks from the squares riding the iron horse but that’s the beauty of being a punk rocker in high school.
If you dug NYHC you’ll dig this nuff said peep the ancient Beastie Boys flyer’s in there. Wonder who did those? There so bad there genius……Young and the Useless……….You had to be there to understand truly…. I think. The Young and Useless were Adrock and Dave Skilken’s band. Skilken passed away in the early 90’s he was a motivating force in the Beastie Boys posse and a brilliant dude he defintely did the Young and the Useless one. Young and Useless were King Adrocks first band pre Beastie’s Skilken was a funny cat and left us way to early I went to a lot of shows with that dude………NYHC shit was so fresh back then……

Kevin Crowley I believe did that one….Fucking ET I would choke that herb out to….Dam illegal aliens

Sean Taggert’s handy work for sure…..Loved his stuff and loved the Cro-Mags….They were like a biker gang or some shit….they rolled in your town tore shit up,knocked dudes out stole ther chicks and left…..Cro-Mags were legendary

How craze is this? This is definitely the John Berry pre rap Beastie Boys days……..Shit is so dope….One more TR3 that shit was olllld skoool…I saw Madness there…The Dammed…….Bad Brains…..Stage was like a foot of the ground…..Place was so cool….John Bloodclot was security picture that….

Another Crowley jump off….he had a really Heavy Metal magazine style….A7 was this shitty little club on ave a and 7th street it’s now Niagra…..Saw a lot of good hardcore shows there over the years…….

Classic Sean Taggert right here….His shit was always funny to me half tongue and cheek his OG t shirts were sick he did some really dope sick of it all flyers wish I could find some…

Another Kevin Crowley classic…..The Mob were dope kind of like a mini Bad Brains…..They were a tight ass little power trio….Jack Flanagan….he also guitar teched for every body for years and years….

More Sean Taggert not sure what this was for I think some kind of compilation of sorts…

I was at this show man it was sick… I moshed all night long….sweated through all my clothes and had a blast….Rock Hotel is now Socialista….Go figure.

Taggerts stuff was my favorite…….He was funny and hardcore kind of took itself too serious at times…

While I loved all these fliers and most of the bands……inarguarably Hardcores bench mark will always be these cats end of story

Much respect to Sean Taggert, Kevin Crowley and all the flyer’s designers….This was way before scanners and computers came in to the mix all this was done by hand and copied on the sneaky at your local kinko’s or wherever any one could find a photo copy machine for a few minutes on the humble…..NYHC another reason why NYC is the worlds greatest city
