JERRY WEXLER REST IN POWER

Uncategorized August 15th, 2008

Jerry Wexler was my idol, the person I patterned parts of my life after and one of the first people to ever coin the term Soul music ( The soul of Ray Charles and Soulin by Ray Charles). He discovered Ray Charles, signed Aretha Franklin and redirected her career, brought Stax records to the mainstreams attention and was the first white person I ever heard of that took his passion for black music and culture and made it his career. There’s a reason I idolized him, he was the prototype for guys like me a hard working, take no shorts tough yet hip New York kind of Jew. His legacy is endless, timeless and one to treasure.

He was a controversial guy, he wasn’t running for office and he had a vision that was flawless. Much respect to Jerry Wexler the architect for a whole sound, the visionary that was as much behind Atlantic record as was Ahmet Ertegun his long time partner and a one of a kind person in his own right. Thanks for laying the groundwork were all indebted.
