JIMMY MCGRIFF REST IN POWER
One of the all time great organ players Jimmy Mcgriff passed away on May 25th. Jimmy Mcgriff was one of the tastiest people to ever grace the Hammond with his soul. The guy helped invent soul jazz, he gigged until he couldn’t walk and was one of the funkiest cats ever. He played with so much style and fluidity it was a pleasure to all who listened to his music or got the chance to see him perform. I saw him in his later years and the guy still had it holding down not only the organ but all the bass parts on foot pedals as well. Jimmy Mcgriff was sampled countless times and truly was an inspiration to many of us hiphop producers who scooped up his amazing sounds to create with. Thanks Jimmy Mcgriff if you never wrote another song after Groove Grease that would have been enough for me!

Here’s one of my all time favorite Jimmy Mcgriff tunes. I think a guy named Qtip and these vato’s locos named Cypress hill dug this one as well: The record is called Groove Grease and the songs called the Worm and it rocks:
This should work if that one doesn’t:
